Current Traffic Impacts

For all projects:

  • Paving must be done in a warm and dry climate in order to ensure the highest quality.
  • The current state of the roads is transitional until the final paving can be completed.
  • Crews are scheduled to work 24 hours per day, unless otherwise noted, and will institute noise and odor control measures.

  Alexander Road and Lamb Boulevard

Starting April 9, crews will be relining sewer collection lines in the area of Alexander and Lamb. Lane restrictions will be in place on Alexander Road.  The two inside lanes on Westbound and Eastbound Alexander Road, as well as the center median, will be restricted, from Puebla Street to Flossmoor Street.  Left turns will not be allowed in the construction zone.   The outside lanes in both directions will remain open.

Sahara Avenue and Rancho Del Vista Street

Starting May 22, crews will be relining sewer collection lines in the area of Sahara Avenue and Rancho Del Vista. Lane restrictions will be in place on Sahara Avenue.  The two inside lanes on Westbound and Eastbound Sahara Avenue, as well as the center lane, will be restricted, from Rancho Del Vista to Orchard Valley Drive.  Left turns will not be allowed in the construction zone.   The outside lanes in both directions will remain open.

How the sewer pipeline rehabilitation process works:

Thanks to technology advances, we are able to complete some of our rehabilitation work without opening trenches in the streets. The process begins with videotaping the sewer pipes to determine which areas need to be rehabilitated.

Once this is determined, bypass pumps are set up to empty the pipes by diverting water to another area of the sewer system.

A felt tube is then inserted into the pipe through a manhole and is impregnated with a thermal-setting resin.

The resin is then cured with steam, leaving behind a hard, durable liner.

This process prevents crews from having to dig trenches to replace pipes, reducing construction time and traffic impacts.

Some repairs will require the pipe or manhole to be replaced or resized, requiring an open trench for the project work. The existing sewer flows will be bypassed during the work to maintain service, and the pipeline will be replaced. While this method usually has more of an impact on traffic in the surrounding area, we strive to minimize those impacts, while safely completing the work.
